Applications Open: Women In The Studio National Accelerator 2024

Music Publishers Canada (MPC) is now accepting applications for our 2024 Women in the Studio National Accelerator. In its sixth year, this program will offer a series of curated production and songwriting related opportunities and networking experiences to women-identifying, gender-fluid, non-binary, and gender non-conforming producer-songwriters from across the country. Meet our talented program alumni and watch the 2023 Women In The Studio recap here.

We encourage applications from individuals who have been historically underrepresented in these spaces and who remain so today.

The Accelerator is designed to provide the cohort with skills development and networking opportunities that may otherwise be inaccessible to them. Participants will gain valuable insights from mentors and industry experts for the duration of the program starting with sessions in June through to December 2024. The program will focus on topics including technical and songwriting skills, branding, financial and music business literacy and will offer opportunities for creative collaborations. Each producer, as a condition of acceptance, will be asked to explore volunteer opportunities in their own community.

Sessions and workshops will take place virtually and in person, including a comprehensive residency program of development and networking opportunities in-person in Toronto between August 23-30, 2024 (*exact dates TBD). You should not apply if you are not available during this period.

Please note: This program is intended for producers who are already producing for others and have at least mid-level proficiency in a DAW (digital audio workstation). If you are primarily a self-producing artist, we request that you submit at least two works that you've produced for others.

To qualify, candidates must be:

1. A mid to high level working producer-songwriter with experience producing for others (indicate proficiency in at least one DAW)
2. Able to provide a streamable link to 3 examples of works they have produced, noting if they are also credited as a co-writer and/or artist
3. A Canadian resident (must be able to provide proof of residency)
4. Identify as a woman, gender fluid, non-binary, and/or gender non-conforming person
5. Available to be in Toronto in-person between August 23 - 30, 2024 (*exact dates TBD)

Applications will be accepted online until Tuesday, February 27, 2024, and can be submitted either by the candidate directly, or on behalf of a candidate (as long as you’ve confirmed that the candidate is interested and able to participate in all aspects of the program).

Applications are reviewed by an external jury, and selected candidates will be invited to proceed to an interview. Only successful candidates will then be contacted by Music Publishers Canada.

The Women in the Studio National Accelerator 2024 is supported by RBC, FACTOR and the Government of Canada, and Ontario Creates. MPC would also like to thank Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP and Compass Rose Group.

Application deadline: Tuesday, February 27, 2024
